Serenbe: Toone

David and Brenda Toone were attracted to the idea of a well-planned community where green space is preserved and a neighborly feel was a welcome environment in which to raise their son.

David Toone is an acupuncturist and for a time his practice was located within Serenbe, the neighborhood sensibility was a good fit for an alternative health practice.  He has since moved his practice to a higher-density location though the family remains rooted to Serenbe and its appeal.

They are conscious of their impact on the planet and of doing their part to minimize their footprint.  They believe that conservation and comfort can go hand in hand.  For example, they supplement traditional fuel with bio diesel for their two cars; even though it costs more, they feel it is the right thing to do.  The couple had some input on their home’s design but did not change anything about the bathrooms.  If she had to do it over again, Brenda says she would consider removing a half bath off the kitchen in lieu of a pantry for more storage space.

She noticed a positive change right away when this project began; even with water-saving fixtures, there was no loss in water pressure, even on the most efficient settings.  Comfort and conservation, hand in hand.
