Serenbe: Richards

Sarah Richards and Nick Marine explain water efficient toilets to one of her labs. Looking on are Tommy Linstroth and Louise Mulherin, lab fan and consultant with the Green Earth PR Network.
Sarah Richards moved to Serenbe in 2007 and was attracted by how the community matched well with her active, outdoor lifestyle as well as her lifelong awareness of conservation issues.
Calling herself an “environmentalist in the extreme,” Sarah is mindful of her impact on the planet and takes great measures to reduce her footprint. An avid sailor all her life, she says spending so much time on a boat forces you to be aware of conserving water when it is as much an issue of survival as it is of comfort.
Having lived in a remote, 200-year-old farmhouse also taught her about living in concert with your surroundings and preserving resources. Even though she has always been conscious of conservation, she is eager to see how she can further reduce her water usage through this project. With a love of active vacations such as bike trips, she is often seen on training walks and runs through Serenbe’s vast trail system with her two dogs who love the outdoors just as much.
Sarah confesses one area where it’s hard to cut back on water use, frequent outdoor baths for her two Labrador retrievers after their treks through the open wilderness.
